LadyVampire's Halloween Giveaway Day 2
Contest Day Two
It’s day two of my contest and I had a great time yesterday reading everyone’s stories of their ghostly encounters. If you are new to my blog, feel free to go back and post your ghost story as there is still time to enter all the contests until the end of the week.
Today I’d like to talk about vampires. Specifically books with vampires. Myself, I like paranormal romance more then the horror books. It’s nice to see that authors are finally casting vampires as the good guys instead of the evil villain lurking in the dark. Not that I mind vampire villains, but in the past villainous is all they were cast as. Now though, I have a great many favorite authors who have helped pave the way for paranormal heroes.
My first paranormal romance was “Circus of the Damned” by Laurell K Hamilton. I loved the cover of the book and bought it. Instantly it hooked me and I went back and bought all the other books by LKH. Thankfully “Circus of the Damned” was the newest book out back then but now Anita Blake’s series stretches over the ten book mark. Yes, I love Jean Claude. How could I not? Everyone falls in love with him in the pages of the Anita Blake series. But he is one of many vampires I now enjoy in a series.
There is Tanya Huff’s Blood series and her vampire Henry Fitzroy. Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress series and her vampire Bones. Kim Harrison’s Hollow series and her vampire Ivy. Karen Chance’s vampire Mircea from her Cassandra Palmer series. Etc. I could go on for a while here as I have a favorites list a mile long. But I want to hear your favorite. What vampire hero, book or series is your favorite? Have more then one? Feel free to list as many as you like.
Please feel free to comment to this post until October 11th when the contest closes. One entry per person per day per post. This contest is limited to US citizens only although everyone is invited to comment.

My favorite would be the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J.R. Ward. My favorite vampire is Vischous.
I like Maggie Shayne's Vampire triology featuring Reaper, Jack, Topaz, Gregor, etc in Demon's Kiss, Lover's Bite, and Angel's Pain.
I also just recently started Colleen Gleason's vampire hunter/slayer series.
I know I am missing a few but I can't remember right now
Love the blog
Thanks Cheryl

I love Henry Fitzroy and the Blood Books by Huff! I also love Edward in the Twilight Series, though not in the last book!
This totally off topic, but I wanted to let you know that I've nominated your blog for an "I Love Your Blog" award over at my blog. Stop by to see the post.
Hope your week is going great!
Since I just got into the Stephanie Meyer's series of books, I'd have to go with the first one, Twilight but the series in general is really good!

My favorite paranormal is Sherrilyn Kenyon but since they are not technically "vampire"
Hrmmm, I'd have to say Lara Adrian's books are my favorite. Ahhh Rio

I have read a lot of vampire books. And plenty of series. There are so many I could be here all day typing them out...LOL.
Anyway, I've read Jennifer Armintrout's Blood Ties series. Loved them all and Nathan, the hero in the book, is my favorite. He's so down to earth and he's crazy over Carrie.
Although, I have read Rosemary Laruey's series. I love those too. And in those books I'd have to say that Justin is my fave in that one. Only because he changed the woman that he loved to keep her from dying and helps her take care of her human son.
Oh, and one more (and I swear that will be it ... LOL) Sara Reinke's Dark Thirst, with Brandon. I loved the way she made the hero someone you would think of as not-so-much of hero!
okay that's it!
My favorite vampire book is the young adult novel The Silver Kiss. It's a really touching story of dealing with grief, love, and sacrifice. I haven't read it recently - and October would be a good month for re-reads, right?
guess i'm the odd one, but i think anne rice's vamps will always remain my favorites. but, i really can't choose just one of them, i love them all. laurall k hamilton's jean claude is also a favorite. he is soft and considerate, but hard and ruthless when the situation calls for it.......and just the way he talks is sexy as all get out.
I'd have to say The Twilight Series as of right now... I'm in the process of collecting books from other vampire series (I like to read them in order) so I'm sure I'll have more favorites soon.
To be honest I've never read any of the modern vampire series. I've thought about trying them, and after reading this blog, I think I'll give Laurell Hamilton a try.
I can, however, say that I've been fascinated with the legend of vampires ever since I was young. Very young, in fact, probably 8 or 9. Once I was old enough to get a hold of the real book, I read Bram Stoker's Dracula and was amazed at the difference between the novel and the portrayal of vampires in movies and television. The movie version of the novel with Gary Oldham really brough out much more of the novel than any previous version had. I definitely would have let him bite me if I'd been in the movie! ;)
I'm totally addicted to three vampire series: The Dark-Hunter and Dark series as well as The Gardella Chronicles. These are a must for all vampire readers!
great blog and contests! My favorite vampires are Anne Rice's. Especially Louis in Interview With the Vampire. Though I do like Edward Cullen in Stephenie Meyer's Twilight as well.

I really like reading about vampires and like you I also like the romantic side of them.
My faves:
Dracula, of course.
Interview with a Vampire
Vampire Academy series
Twilight series
House of Night series
Lots of YA.
Mandy, I'm a fan of J R Wards too!
Cheryl, I am behind on reading Maggie Shayne's books but have them here in my to-be-read pile which is way too big. I don't have by Colleen Gleason which I will have to check out so thanks for the recommendation!
Serene, I read Tanya Huff's Blood series way before the Tv series came out. Great books!
Sidhe Vicious, how awesome! Thanks for the wonderful news and I have to tell you I'm very honored. I'm new at this blogging but I'm enjoying it.
BlueViolet, You know, I keep hearing everyone talking about Stephanie Meyers Twilight series but haven't read it yet. I really need to get to it.
Raonaid, Kenyon!!! I love Sherrilyn Kenyon's book. Yes, they count as vampire even though there are differences. At least they count according to my opinion. And Lara Adrian is another favorite of mine. I cannot wait until Veil comes out.
Ruth, Sara Reinke and Jennifer Armintrout are two authors I have in my to-be-read pile here. Rosemary Laruey is totally new to me though. I'll have to check her books out.
Lana, Hey! I've read The Silver Kiss! Great book. Same author who wrote Blood and Chocolate too. Another fine story and one that made it onto the big screen. have you seen the movie?
Twisted, Laurell K Hamilton is a huge favorite of mine and actually her books are what got be solidly hooked on the paranormal. Ann Rice however I have to admit, I havent read. Why? I don't know. I've kept putting her books on the side for next time since I would find other books I wanted to read more I guess. It's funny too that I have read some of her sister's books and not hers.
Danie88, still havent read the Twilight series here yet either. I need to.
Ann, some of the older vampire books are classic and great but you might enjoy some of the new ones too. You may Laurell K Hamilton. I know I do. She's one of my favorite authors.
Tetewa, the Gardella series is new to me. Since your the second one to mention it, I think I really need to get a move on and locate a book or two of this series.
Naida, thanks for your compliments! I'm so glad you liked visiting. And I hope you'll come again as I enjoyed having you here. And your another Ann Rice fan huh? I really need to dig those books of hers out of my shelves here and read them.
Mari, I have some YA books here but havent started them yet. Also, Kelley Armstrong has a new YA series out. Have you read her book The Summoning? It's book one of her new Darkest Powers series.
Thanks for all the recommendations everyone! I have new authors and books to check out after reading all the comments.
Stephanie Meyer's series "Twilight".
Love her books!!!!

Though I really like paranormal/vampire books I have not read that many. I have read Interview with a Vampire by Ann Rice and loved it.
I have seen so many reviews of the Twilight Series by Stephanie Meyers that I have added them to my TBR list. They sound fantastic.
So many vampire romances to like. I started with Nancy Gideon's Midnight series and then Maggie Shaynes Twilight series, and haven't stopped since. One of my favorites, Zarek from Kenyon's Dance with the Devil.
Ok I love JR Ward and got to meet her again this year. My fav. character is Zadist. Ummm I also love Amanda Ashley and Christine Feehan, Lynsay Sands, and Marta Acosta.
crystaladkins722@gmail.com
Darby, I still need to read Twilight yet here.
Jackie, Another Ann Rice fan huh? I still havent read her work here but some of her books are in my to-be-read pile here. Ever read her sisters books? No vamps but everyone I know seemed to be surprised to know Ann Rice had a sister.
Pam, I have some Nancy Gideon books on my wish list here but dont own any yet. I'll have to check back into those. I do have some more Maggie Shayne to here in my shelves. And I, like you, love Zarek from Kenyon's books. I am a sucker for a hard luck story and a man with determination. Zarek has all that and more.
Crystal, JR Ward is a fab author. I'm jealous you got to meet her! I swear, I'm going to start stalking you since you get to meet all the authors. (Just teasing but I wish I was as lucky as you) Amanda Ashley, Christine Feehan and Lynsay Sands are also great authors. Sands has some awesome historical novels too. And Marta Acosta is a new author I recently discovered and I have been trying to get books by her.
Where to start?
Really like Twilight, Anne Rice's vampires are great, but I have to say that I haven't read a sexier version of vampire since reading Nina Bangs' Wicked Nights, although her MacKenzie vampires are pretty hot too!
:) Terri
TerriRainer, I havent read Twilight yet but I plan to soon. Especially with the movie on the way. As for Ann Rice, I'll admit I havent read her books yet for some reason. I do have some Nina Bangs books though. Your right, she is an awesome author!
